A few words about us:
Experimental Guitar Ensemble “Guitar Heroes” is an amateur ensemble, which came into being in Autumn 2009 as an ‘experiment’, an initiative Evaggelia Paraschou undertook – musicologist and guitarist, working at the Cultural Department of Thermaikos Municipality (Thessaloniki, Greece). Through trial and error and intensification of work, Guitar Heroes have found their way since the Spring of 2010 and continue their dynamic music career till now.
Their first appearance took place in the opening of the 3rd Thermaikos International 2min Film Festival 2010 at KAPPA Theatre (Peraia, Thessaloniki). Guitar Heroes have also appeared at Antoniadeios Theatre of Veroia (Guitar Orchestra & Ensembles Meeting 2011 – 2013), at the Municipal Theatres of Epanomi and Michaniona, as well as at Vafopouleio Theatre.
Guitar Heroes is a music group, a chamber orchestra comprising exclusively classical guitars. In this camerata, we abandon our lonely solo journeys and meet each other in collective musical adventures and experiences, sharing feelings and views.
Departing from the flexibility, the colour richness and the cross-over character of the classical guitar, the ensemble performs a diverse repertoire, ranging from original to transcribed pieces (art music, jazz, rock, soundtracks). Evaggelia Paraschou is the artistic director and manager of the ensemble. Guitar Heroes embody the ideal of participatory culture as it welcomes guitarists of different ages and levels, people who are amateurs but in the same time active producers of culture.
Participation is free of charge.
The name of the ensemble is a pun: it refers to the popular video game “Guitar Hero” with the difference that we are playing real music with real guitars. The name also mirrors our intention to interact with pop culture and also reflects our musical heroism, as we try to transcend cultural degradation and bad music.
Our goal is to spread the word of guitar, the aesthetic pleasure, the initiation of the public in the magical world of the classical guitar, the dissemination of classical guitar culture in the local community.

Το Πειραματικό Κιθαριστικό Σύνολο “Guitar Heroes” ιδρύθηκε το Φθινόπωρο του 2009 από την Ευαγγελία Παράσχου, στο πλαίσιο της λειτουργίας του πρώην Πολιτιστικού Κέντρου Δήμου Θερμαϊκού, νυν ΔΗ.Π.Π.Α.Κ.Υ.Θ. (Ν.Π.Δ.Δ. του Δήμου Θερμαϊκού Θεσσαλονίκης). Η πρώτη επίσημη εμφάνιση έγινε ένα χρόνο μετά (το 2010) στην έναρξη του 3rd Thermaikos International Film Festival στο θέατρο ΚΑΠΠΑ στην Περαία Θεσ/νίκης.
Πρόκειται για μια δημιουργική μουσική ομάδα, μια ορχήστρα δωματίου που απαρτίζεται αποκλειστικά από κλασικές κιθάρες. Οι Guitar Heroes είναι αφοσιωμένοι στην ερμηνεία πρωτότυπων έργων για κιθαριστικό σύνολο, διευρύνοντας σταθερά το ρεπερτόριο τους. Ωστόσο, ενίοτε ερμηνεύουν και διασκευές από το χώρο της ποπ, ροκ και κινηματογραφικής μουσικής.
Η συμμετοχή στο σύνολο είναι δωρεάν ανεξαρτήτως ηλικίας και επιπέδου, με κατώτατο επιθυμητό επίπεδο των υποψηφίων μελών αυτό της Α’ Κατωτέρας. Απαραίτητη προϋπόθεση επίσης η αγάπη για την καλή μουσική και τη συλλογική, ενεργή μουσική δημιουργία.
Η ονομασία του συνόλου εμπεριέχει ένα λογοπαίγνιο με το γνωστό μουσικό video game “Guitar Hero”, μόνο που στην περίπτωση μας πρόκειται για πραγματικές κιθάρες και ζωντανή, αληθινή μουσική. Η ονομασία φανερώνει επίσης τη διάθεση για συναλλαγή και με την pop κουλτούρα αλλά αναδεικνύει πρωτίστως και το μουσικό “ηρωϊσμό” των μελών της που κάνουν επίθεση ποιότητας και καλαισθησίας στην υποκουλτούρα και την πολιτιστική παρακμή.
Στόχος μας η μουσική μυσταγωγία, η αισθητική απόλαυση, η μύηση του κοινού στο μαγευτικό και ανεξερεύνητο κόσμο της κλασικής κιθάρας, η διάδοση της κιθαριστικής κουλτούρας.
